Memory To Hang On To

Among golf fans today, one still hears conversations on the remarkable Father's day play-off, and Tiger Woods coming from behind to win this year's US Open.  Although he claimed that victory, they also revealed defeat as Tiger announced a couple days later, that he would be unable to finish the season. It has been said FedEx is sponsoring a contest that Tiger now cannot win.  It has been asked who will win with no Tiger around?  His absence will open the door to many world's top golfers.  Tiger's not being at the Fedex will give others the confidence they need too win.  These other great golfers now have an opportunity to step up their game and show off their game.  This is a great time for the new stars in golf to shine.

Will golf survive without Tiger Woods in the golf scene?  Yes, but many will suffer also.  Although the quality of golf will not suffer, the television ratings will.  The real effect of Tiger being able to finish the season will show up at the end of the season.  What Tiger does to the game of golf is indescribable.  His recent win at the US open was so memorable that many will hang onto that memory till Tiger returns.  One just has to remember, this is not the end of Tiger Woods, he is planning on returning.  The greater loss will come when he announces retirement.  Many other sports have recovered from their greats stepping down.
