Tiger Woods

With Tiger Woods being ranked number one golfer in the world as well as being the highest paid professional golfer, Tiger has a lot going for him. However, it is unfortunate that he is sitting out for four championships to make sure that the rehabilitation of his left knee goes well.  By 2010, he should be the first athlete to pass one billion dollars in earnings.  His absence leaves the position of champion open to someone else.

One possible contender may be Retief Goosen, who was the 2001 and 2004 US Open Champion. He is rated as one of the best golfers in his generation.  He has held memberships on three different PGA tours; the US PGA Tour, the European Tour and the Southern African Tour.  Goosen turned professional in 1990, but it took him eleven years before he won his first U.S. Open tournament.  In 2001, he had 3 wins, which placed him in 11th place in the world.  In 2006, he was named the 3rd best player by Official World Golf Rankings.

Retief Goosen may never be ranked the best like Tiger Woods, but he sure has a shot at winning a few tournaments while Tiger is out doctoring his injuries. His calm demeanor will be a helping factor to stay intact throughout the tournament.  He has been called the "Iceman" because of his calmness. Hopefully, he can live up to his nickname and garner a couple of championships while Tiger recovers.
