Lorena Ochoa: Ana Outdoor Enthusiast

The LPGA's number one golfer for 68 consecutive weeks is more than just a great golfer. Lorena Ochoa has been an avid outdoor enthusiast most of her short life.

Lorena was born on November 15, 1981, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. She grew up in a family that enjoyed camping, hiking, and horseback riding. By 1990 she was a tennis champion and in the 1990's she also competed in swimming, basketball, volleyball, triathlons, and did mountain climbing. While doing all of these activities she still found time to win 5 Junior World Golf Championships. In 2001 Lorena received The National Sports Award from the President of Mexico, she was the first golfer and the youngest to ever receive the award.

She chose to play golf because of the challenges it provides and the mental toughness needed. Lorena entered The University of Arizona on a golf scholarship in 2000, and won NCAA Player of the Year honors in 2001 and 2002. In 2002 she left college and joined the Futures Tour where she won 3 events and was at the top of the Money List. She received her LPGA Tour Card in 2003 and had 8 top 10 finishes in her Rookie season. In 2004 she won her first LPGA event and has since added 22 more wins including 2 majors. At the end of 2006 Lorena was awarded the LPGA Tour Player of the Year title, and was also named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year. She is not done yet, she has already achieved enough points to enter the LPGA Hall of Fame in 2012 when she is first eligible.
