Betsy King

Ms. Betsy King was a famous golfer who was born in 1955 in a small suburb just outside Reading, PA. In 1984, King was the highest paid female golfer in the LPGA. She also placed in the top ten money winners several years after that. During her career, she won a total of 34 awards. She played for the USA in many different cups, and led the USA during her 2007 tour. This year, she led the USA to a 16-12 victory over Europe.

Ms. King is also noted for winning several other major tours. In 1987, she won the Kraft Nabisco tour. This tour was first played in 1972, and has been a major golf tour since 1983. This tour has a total payout of over $2 million, and is played in California, on some of the nation's finest golf courses.

In 1989, Ms. King won the US Open. This is the only event still recognized as a major to the LPGA since it was founded in the early 1950's. The other current majors that we know of today were founded later. Unlike the men's, the women's US open is not recognized around the world as a major championship.

During her career, Ms. King has won many trophies and awards for her accomplishments. In 1984, 1989, and 1993 she won the Player of the Year award. In 1987, Ms. King won the Vare Trophy Award, and was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame in 1995.
