Annika Sorenstam

Annika Sorenstam was born in Sweden. As a young girl, she played tennis and was a very good skier. At age 12 she began her golf career. She and her sister had to share a set of golf clubs, but this didn't keep her from excelling in the game in high school and into college. Today, Annika ranks as one of the most successful women golfers in history.

While she was waiting to start college in Sweden, she played in several golf tournaments. Eventually she came to the United States to attend college in Arizona. She earned several titles while in college and after graduation she played in a European Women's Golf tour. Her biggest dream was to play in the LPGA. She achieved this goal in 1993 when she was accepted as a member. Annika continued to excel in every way, winning many more tournaments. She also played in the 2003 PGA, a tournament no woman had played in since 1945.

Annika suffered from a neck injury in 2007. This greatly affected her golf game. In 2008 she decided to retire from professional golf and do some things which she is very passionate about. She has designed several golf courses, two here in the United States, one in China, and one in Africa. She has opened an academy which specializes in teaching the students how to improve their game of golf. Her other love is cooking and she has been involved in cooking demonstrations at some golf tournaments.

Annika's accomplishments are many. She will be remembered for her activity on and off the golf course.
