Karrie Anne Webb, who is classified Australia’s most successful female golfer, has also made her mark around the world. Not only has she pulled top rankings in her home country, but has also set records on the Ladies European Tour, and the U.S. based LPGA Tour.
In 1994, Karrie started playing professional golf. During that first year she took second place at the Australian Ladies Open, and won one tournament on the Futures Tour in United States. As Karrie’s game continued to improve, so did her popularity on a world wide spectrum. She became the first LPGA player to hit the $1 million mark in winnings in a single season, which also topped her on the money list that year. When she won the U.S. Women’s Open title and the LPGA Championship in 2001, she became the youngest player to achieve the LPGA Career Grand Slam. In 2002, Karrie won the Women’s British Open giving her a Super Career Grand Slam, which means she won every available major championship in women’s golf.
Karrie also played with Annika Sorenstam to attract the largest audience for women’s golf ever. This happened when she teamed with David Duval and Annika teamed with Tiger Woods, having the best two female golfers and best two male golfers in the world play in a competition made for television.
Even though Karrie has spread her career throughout the Tours of the world, she mainly plays in the U.S. LPGA Tour now. She has made her mark in the world of golf, and at age 30, she became the youngest living person ever to enter the Hall of Fame.
