Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson, born June 16, 1970, is one of America's most successful golfers. Lefty, his nickname for his left handed swing, despite being right handed in all other situations, is a quite humble champion who is adored by many.

He attended Arizona State University on a golfing scholarship where he became quite well known after winning three individual National Championships, three Hawkins Awards for outstanding college golfer, and first team all American for all four years of college. He even won his first PGA tour championship in 1991 while an amateur in college.

Graduating from college was certainly not the end to his success, but rather the jumping-off point. He has gone on to win numerous championships including the Byron Nelson Golf Classic, the World Series of Golf in 1996, the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in 1998, the Colonial National Invitation in 2000 and the Greater Hartford Open in 2001 and again in 2002, the Buick Invitational in 2000, the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, and the 2005 PGA Championship.

His success continues as he travels through the 2008 season, but not to the extent that he would like. So far he has captured the Northern Trust Open and the Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial. However, he expresses that he is not playing as well as he could be. With the playing field open due to the injury of Woods, Mickelson feels that he should be dominating, but is not. The 2008 season has not come to an end, and after changing swing coaches, Mickelson is looking ahead to more successful play.
