Introducing Cristie Kerr

Cristie Kerr was born October 12, 1977 in Miami, Florida. She started playing golf at the age of eight. In 1994, she won the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship and was the 1995 American Junior Golf Association Junior Player of the Year. In 1996, she played in the Curtis Cup and U.S. Open. She graduated from Miami Sunset High School in Kendall, Florida and decided to turn professional in 1996, at the age of 18, giving up college. In 2006, she married Erik Stevens, who heads a company that is developing a sports complex in Brooklyn, New York. They have a home in Scottsdale, Arizona and New York City. Besides playing golf, she appeared in a 2005 episode of "The Apprentice" television series with her friend Donald Trump.

In 1996, hoping to get an exempt status for 1997, she tied for sixth place in the Ladies Professional Golfer's Association. Her first LPGA win was in 2002. In 2005, she won two tournaments. In 2006, she set a tournament record with 19 under par. In 2007, she won her first major championship, the U.S. Women’s Open Championship.

When her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, she actively became involved in fund raising for breast cancer research. She also started the Birdies for Breast Cancer project to raise money for research. Through her efforts on and off the golf course, numerous corporations and hundreds of friends and fans have been inspired to donate and join the fight against breast cancer. Cristie donates $50 for every birdie she makes and has shot 157. Through her foundation, she has raised $250,000 since 2004.
