The British Open With-out The Tiger

The Royal Birkdale in South Port, England is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the country and where the 137th historical British Open was played. Where dreams and hopes of many are equally fulfilled and dashed. It was quoted that without Tiger Wood the British Open would be just a field of dreamers.

The talented Tiger was home recouping from knee surgery, so the game went on with talented golfers anxious to show their skills, to prove that the Tiger factor was not so strong.

It began with the favorite Sergio Garcia followed by Ernie Els, Lee Westwood and Phil Michleson, with dark horse Anthony Kim, on a fast move forward. Some of the players that were expected to shine were Chris Wood (no relation to Tiger wo) worked his way up the leader board Sunday only to boggy on the last hole. Simon Wakefield also had a disappointing finish. Still he is a rising player rated 68th on the European order of Merit. The tournament favorite was Sergio Garcia. He had problems with every part of his game. Phil Mickelson was also very inconsistent. So it went with Jim Furyk, Greg Norman, and Ian Poulter.

Padraig Harrington made it look easy, bad wrist notwithstanding, as he took back to back wins. It was spectacular display on the back nine. Harrington unleashed a striking 4-under 32 for a 1-under 69 with 3-over total 283.
