Tiger Woods has dominated the world of golf and brought a sport, long thought elite and exclusive, to the masses. Golf's popularity has soared over the last decade, bringing in fans and players from all walks of life. Although golf developed as a gentleman's sport, times have certainly changed. Tiger may have slated a name for himself as the Face of Golf, but he is not alone. This gentleman's sport has been taken to a new level, and now women are conquering.
Notably, one young woman in particular has proved her prowess in Tiger's forum. Born and raised in Hawaii, Michelle Wie began playing golf at the age of four. Since then, she has taken the golf world by storm. At ten years of age, she began breaking records when she was the youngest ever to qualify for the Women's U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. This was the beginning of a career that would take her pro and make her a winner. Extraordinary in many ways, Wie attracted much attention, not only with her professionalism and expertise at her game, but also because she is over six feet tall, unusual for a woman of Korean descent. This may contribute to the form of her golf swing and extraordinary length of her drive.
Soon we will see Michelle Wie, as well as some of her female compatriots, playing with the big boys. Already breaking records and finishing first, Michelle is on a quest to play in the PGA.
