Ryder Cup Details

The Ryder Cup was first formed in 1927. This is a match between America and Europe. Europe is ahead of the U.S.A. in Ryder Cup wins. The top players from the four major championships in 2007 and other tournaments in 2008 are automatically chosen for the first eight spots on the American team. On the down side, with two of our major players out in injury, the prospect of winning the Ryder Cup is not looking too great for the U.S. Tiger Woods is out right now with an injury to his knee. There is no word yet on when he is scheduled to return. Luke Donald is now also out of the competitions due to a wrist injury.

Even though Tiger Woods and Luke Donald will not be playing, the U.S. still has a good chance to win. Capitan Paul Azinger still has not announced who else will be going with the team to the Ryder Cup. There are still the quality players to pick from.

Team mate Kenny Perry had to take time out for an eye injury, but is still scheduled to be in the tournament. Capitan Azinger is scheduled to make the announcement on which last four players will be joining the US team on September 2nd, in New York City. He has said that friendships with the players will not influence him on his decision. The decision for the last four is done on a point system, where players are given a point amount for money earned in the championships. With a bit of luck and strong choices for the last four players, the U.S. may still win the Ryder Cup.
