The Wyndham

When the Wyndham tournament began in 1932, it was called the Carolinas Open. The first set of games were played at the Starmount Forest Country Club. Later, in 1938, the tournament was called the Greater Greensboro Open, and was also played at the Sedgefield Country Club. The tournament was not played in 1943 and 1944 because of World War II.

The Greater Greensboro Open started again in 1945, and was played at the same country clubs as before. For 13 years that is how the tournament went along; this arrangement was great for everybody. In 1960 The Starmount course was damaged by a hard winter, so in 1961 it was played on the Sedgefield course. This was actually a better set up because it could hold more people.

On the move again, in 1977 the tournament started at a place called Forest Oaks Country Club, and stayed for 31 years. In all of the moves that the tournament had made, the name also changed with them. From the Greater Greensboro Open, to the K-mart Open, and then to the Chrysler Classic. Starting in 2007 it became the Wyndham Championship. This is a normal golf tournament for the PGA Tour. It is played once a year still in Greensboro, North Carolina and is usually played in mid-August. This is the last tour before the Playoffs and the FedEx Cup. This year the tournament is back to the Sedgefield Country Club.
