Ochoa and the Canadian Women’s Open

Coming off some time away from golf to rest and spend time with family, Lorena Ochoa seemed ready for the Canadian Women's Open, stating that her play has been solid over the last few weeks. Although the defending champion led in the early rounds of play in the Canadian Women’s Open, during the third round she stumbled, and was tied for third going into the final round. Ochoa has won six times this year, including a LPGA Major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Lorena Ochoa has had a magnificent golf career starting in her childhood, through college and her early professional years. She is Mexico’s most recognized athlete and continues to receive accolades for her astounding athleticism. She played against rivals in this tournament, including Annika Sorenstam, Paula Creamer and Michelle Wie. Two golfers were ahead of Ochoa going into the final round, including Yani Tseng, who was leading with four under, and Se Ri Pak, who was in second. Lorena entered the final round tied with Katherine Hull.

Lorena’s third and final rounds ended with her over par by two and one shot respectively. Many of her competition fared better in the final round, including Katherine Hull, who Ochoa was tied with entering the final day. Hull won the tournament by turning in a final round score of 69, four overall shots ahead of Ochoa, who tied for fourth with two other players. Se Ri Pak took second and Yani Tseng finished third with a high final round score of 77. Lorena will share in the 2.25 million dollar purse with her winnings of $93,406.
