Tiger Woods is out and there is much speculation as to who will rise to the top in the PGA. When Tiger is in the running, there is no doubt who is favored to win. Now there is a whole range of top players that could be considered second in line to Tiger. After Tiger, the players level out, so it could be a really close race and the title could be up for grabs for a number of players.
Tiger recently announced that he may be out longer than expected and may not start at the beginning of the 2009 season. There are mixed feelings by golf enthusiasts. Some believe the games are much closer and more exciting without Tiger, and others miss watching Tiger’s spectacular game. Everyone is wondering who will be the next winners without Tiger.
Based on recent performances, Padrig Harrington from Ireland is expected by many to rise to the top on the PGA Tour. Harrington has won three of the last six Majors titles. His last title was the PGA Championship, where he started out with five over par in two rounds and came back during the weekend with eight under par, to win two shots under Sergio Garcia and Ben Curtis. Harrington is ranked Europe’s number one player and has the number one spot on the European Ryder Cup team. Harrington earned the distinguished title of 2008 PGA Player of the Year. Many think he is set to take on the number one spot on the 2009 PGA Tour.
Another player to watch is Vijay Singh, the 2008 FedEx Cup Champion. Tiger Woods held that spot in 2007 and Vijay looks like he may be ready to take Tiger’s place on the next PGA Tour.
