Who's on Top in the PGA

With Tiger Woods out of the picture for most of 2008, there have been a few new PGA players taking over the limelight. One of these players is Padraig Harrington. His majors victory total is now three out of six and two in a row. This makes him a golf superstar. He has made a drab season without Tiger Woods more exciting and interesting for golf enthusiasts.

Another PGA player of interest is D.A. Points. Points shot a 62 at Miccosukee to tie the lead of the Nationwide Tour. This win boosted him to number 15 in the nationwide money list and put him in good position for a spot on the top 25 PGA Tour card recipient list. If a player is not on the top 25 PGA money list, they will not receive a PGA Tour card for 2009.

Other top players are Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia. Also, even though Tiger Woods has been out since June 15, 2008 he still remains in second place in the PGA Player of the Year standings. Singh is in third place and Mickelson and Garcia are tied for fourth place.

The PGA of the Year Award is presented to the top touring player based on a point system for number of tournament wins. The point counting begins on January 1st and ends on November 9th of the touring year. Fifty bonus points are given to players who win more then one major championship in a year. They are also given 25 points for any additional wins in that same year.

All the players mentioned above are in the running for the PGA Player of the Year Award.
